Ötzi, the Iceman
You love museums and would like to know all about our ancestors? Then the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology in Bolzano/Bozen might be just the right destination for you. The focal point here is Ötzi, the 5,000-year old man from the ice; he was found in 1991 along with his tools and gear.
Opening times: Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. (last entry at 5.30 p.m.), Monday day of rest. In July, August and December the museum is open daily, also on Monday. The museum is also open on 01.01., 01.05. and 25.12.
Lake Carezza/Karersee
Lake Carezza/Karersee is a wonderful destination and easily reachable from Merano and environs. With its crystal-clear waters, it is one of the most beautiful lakes in the Alps. The lake is located in the commune of Nova Levante/Welschnofen, close by the capital Bolzano/Bozen.
Verona
The city of Romeo and Juliet offers a great many destinations. The probably most famous one is the Arena of Verona, a Roman amphi theatre. You can reach the Italian city of Verona in only about 2 hours’ drive – a highly recommendable day trip!
Venice
The city of Venice is one of the most popular tourist destinations and not only known for its carnival. The centre of the city is spread on several islands right in the lagoon of Venice. You can reach Venice in about 3 hours’ car drive.
Lake Garda
Lake Garda is not only the largest lake in Italy, but also a popular destination for many guests in Merano and environs. On the lakeshore, you find a variety of picturesque towns like Lazise, Bardolino, Salò, Desenzano del Garda, Sirmione, Limone sul Garda, Malcesine, Riva del Garda or Torbole.
